Synergos Pastoral Residency

The Greek word συνεργοaς (synergos) means co-laborer or companion in work. The Synergos Residency seeks to equip and support co-laboring mid-career pastors and key congregational leaders to foster ministries that are relevant to the lives of congregants, connecting them to God and empowering them to love their neighbors in new and faithful ways.
Rooted in faith formation, leadership development, coaching, and community, the Synergos Pastoral Residency aims to nurture congregational vitality. By equipping and inspiring lay leaders, the program promotes long-term thriving beyond the residency timeline. Resourcing pastors in their mid-careers, the program will serve future congregations who benefit from the competencies and vocational clarity of these pastors.
About Synergos
The Synergos program serves churches across the Synod of the Rocky Mountains, focusing on some of the most vulnerable congregations — those without access to consistent pastoral leadership. Through two-year pastoral residencies, churches will be grounded in faith formation and stabilized for the hard work of visioning and planning for thriving futures.
The Synergos Pastoral Residency is cohort based and provides wrap around services to pastoral and congregational lay leaders through the following key activities:
- Pastoral Resident support equips and sustains mid-career pastors through: (1) annual retreat providing formation for the first and second year of the evolving ministry, (2) monthly coaching, (3) monthly cohort peer-to-peer learning opportunities.
- Congregation/Church Leader support: (1) congregational consultation, including evaluation, visioning, and goal setting; (2) team coaching for key leaders, (3) cross-congregational roundtable gatherings for shared learnings with cohort congregations, and (4) a final consultation and goal setting for time beyond the grant.
Eligibility
Residents shall be mid-career, ordained Ministers of Word and Sacrament in the PC(USA) in good standing.
Eligible congregations will engage Synergos residents as their primary pastoral leader. These churches will sense a call to work with their Synergos resident minister within a healthy church community, will engage a committed set of session and congregational leadership, and will embrace opportunities for reflection and faithful re-formation.
